Community interactions

We take care of the community! Who is part of it? Anyone committed to advancing digital and optimized materials research and engineering throughout the entire value chain, including scientists and researchers from institutions, universities, projects, and initiatives, as well as interested industry and company stakeholders.

Community Interaction

At the heart of the MaterialDigital initiative is our community. Together, we establish structures for exchange, training, and collaboration. This creates a hub for digitalization within materials science and engineering.

Our ongoing goal is to expand the community and attract more participants who embrace our initiative and vision. We strive to foster an open and vibrant community characterized by a spirit of equal partnership. We provide a platform for collaboration, networking, and knowledge sharing. Many of our resources are freely accessible – yet secure. You maintain complete control over your data.

Help shape the future today! Join the community and contribute to the development of materials tomorrow.

Knowledge Transfer

We bring knowledge into the community!

Open knowledge exchange is fundamental to digitalization. Since everyone's digitalization journey begins at a different point and progresses at a different pace, our goal is to provide useful resources for everyone. Everyone should have the opportunity to access information, develop their skills, and follow their own digitalization path.

We share knowledge and updates from the community through various channels:

  • Website – Get an initial overview of our initiative and discover detailed information about our MaterialDigital projects and focus areas.
  • Your PMD Account – After free registration, you gain full access to the website, including informative materials and tools.
  • YouTube – Videos present the digitalization tools used within the community and practical application examples.
  • Workflow Store – Scripts and programs support implementation and are available via our Workflow Store.
  • Newsletter – Receive current updates and news four times a year via email. Subscribe through your PMD account.
  • GitHub – Various repositories, such as for the modular PMDco implementation, are available to the community.

We aim to make the services of the Platform MaterialDigital accessible and practically usable for as many user groups as possible. To support this, we provide materials, easy-to-follow guides, and workshops that facilitate entry and enable independent use in research and practice.

"Technology evolves increasingly from the primitive through the complicated to the simple."

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Networking

"Alone, we can do so little. Together, we can do so much."

Helen Keller

We connect the community!

Clearly, digitalization in materials science and engineering can only succeed through collaboration. Therefore, our goal is to bring together all stakeholders and the entire community.

Our community members play a crucial networking role. As multipliers, they carry the shared vision and knowledge they have acquired into their work environments and materials domains.

Networking with other initiatives and communities is equally important. There are partners with similar goals, both nationally and internationally. We actively exchange knowledge and create synergies with our partners.

We work closely with our sister initiative NFDI MatWerk. NFDI (National Research Data Infrastructure) MatWerk is a materials science consortium that also focuses on digitalization in materials science and materials engineering. Another important collaboration is with DGM, the German Materials Society. On the European level, we are connected with the French Diadem Program and, through our institutes, participate in the MaterialsCommons4EU consortium.

You can also find our partners and additional interest groups or initiatives on our cooperation page (link to be added; all partners will be listed there).
