Here you will find the projects funded by the BMBF of the MaterialDigital call for proposals, including a brief description of the project content and the consortium working on the respective problem. For even more information on the MaterialDigital initiative and the funded projects of the first call, the BMBF has published a brochure.

PMD-X Projekte - Start 2025

The PMD-X projects aim to showcase the connection between the MaterialDigital platform and the industrial dataspaces in prototype form. These so-called 'breakthrough projects' are very short, lasting only one year, and focus on the interfaces between PMD and Catena-X, Manufacturing-X and AeroSpace-X. These projects are primarily worked on by industrial partners.

The MaterialDigital 3 projects originate from the third call for proposals issued by the BMFTR in 2023. This call for proposals aimed to cover the entire circular economy. The MaterialDigital 3 projects are led by industry and now only include a few academic partners. The projects began in 2025 and are still in their early stages.

The MaterialDigital 1 projects originated from the BMFTR's inaugural call for proposals in 2019. Purely academic in nature, they received industrial support and began in 2021. These projects have now been completed. In 2022, the BMFTR published a brochure on the MaterialDigital initiative and the projects from the first round of calls for proposal
